President's Report
By Don Berge, LAND President
We’ve all wondered out loud some time or another that things must surely be better elsewhere. Let’s take a minute and see one instance.
A few months ago, a group of concerned citizens named the Drumlin Hills Coalition (DHC) of Long Prairie, Minnesota, contacted LAND and asked for information on our property rights’ experiences. Our office immediately responded with information concerning perpetual easements and other pertinent information. Consequently, the DHC inquired if a representative from LAND would be interested in meeting them personally.
On January 16, 2004 the opportunity arose to travel and see first hand what our neighbors to the east were experiencing. Energetic, eager and organized are apt descriptions of the DHC. Even though the occupations represented were more varied than ours, one common thread connected us all - our opposition to perpetual easements and governmental encroachments assisted by non-profit organizations.
If anyone has relatives and friends living in Minnesota, please encourage them to assist DHC any way they can. Livelihoods and homes are being threatened. Let’s work together to defeat this madness.
Once again, I found the grass is not always greener on the other side. How about you?
Let’s keep EMINENT DOMAIN out of our vocabulary.
I look forward to your comments. Thanks to everyone who contacted me after my last report. I hope you take the opportunity to make comments about the CSP proposed rules (info enclosed).
