President's Report
By Richard Volk, LAND President
Greetings. I was just thinking about the mild winter we experienced and how nice it would be to have had an early spring, get in the fields and have spring’s work done in a timely manner. It didn't happen.
LAND has just been through a busy month . First, Chuck, Dennis and I participated in a radio talk show, and were able to explain LAND’s concerns and our focus. For this opportunity I want to thank Mark from the Mark Armstrong show on KFYR radio in Bismarck.
In another matter, Dennis Miller, Past President of LAND, was lambasted by Tony Dean with figures he took off the Internet (EWG) of which he knows absolutely nothing about except that they are figures. It is nothing more than if I said Tony makes 10 million dollars a year for opening his yap (mouth). You’ll see that letter, plus some of the responses in this issue. I hope you enjoy seeing how many different ways we can bring private property rights into discussions on hunting, taxes, property values, etc. I also hope this will inspire you to write your own letter to the editor on one of these topics. If you do write, please share that letter with us.
Another thing - Dean labeled LAND as a “radical” group. Evidently Dean does not know what radical means. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, “radical” is defined as "one who advocates fundamental or revolutionary change in current practices , conditions or institutions : Radical seeking to overthrow the social order." I do not believe that this is a definition of LAND.
I believe that with the help of LAND , I can better protect my property rights and be able to manage my land for the benefit of man, wildlife and the environment.
