Board Discusses Carbon Sequestration

The LAND Board discussed carbon sequestration and how it may impact North Dakota during their June meeting.

Some of the questions raised were:

Is there really a market, or just speculation?

If you have land in CRP, who owns the credits - the government who paid you for CRP or the landowner?

Who owns the carbon credit - the landlord or tenant?

The Board is concerned that farmers need more information. If you are approached about selling carbon credits, please contact the LAND office.
