President's Report

By Richard Volk, LAND President

Greetings once again LAND members. Summer is almost over and harvest is here. I was hoping harvest would be an enjoyable one but once again it is shaping up to be a stressful ordeal. I must be getting older as I did not want to start to dry this crop, but I guess that will change. One bright spot is that the market is on the upside, which is good for those that will get bushels but won’t help those that were short of rain.

I still have trouble with the far left environment movement who are using the endangered species act to further their agenda. The junk science they use to get their way. One example is the shutting off of irrigation water at Tule Lake for the sucker fish, which destroyed the livelihood of 1500 farmers and many businesses in Klamath, Oregon. Now we hear that the sucker fish was never in danger but it did succeed in their objectives as some farmers now will never survive in their farming endeavors.

I understand these same people are trying to get rid of about 100 property owners west of Miami, Florida. Have you ever thought if this could happen in your own back yard or maybe it is already happening and you say, “oh well, that’s the way things go.”

Remember if you don’t speak up for your property rights, there are those out there that will make it their agenda to take them away from you. And you may not even know what has happened.

I wish every one of you a prosperous harvest.
